How to Conquer Your Fear of Change and Self Doubts and Transform Your Life

The next hindrances to your vision being realized are “Fear, doubt and unbelief.

The thought of making a life change can be so intimidating that even though you want to be the master of your own destiny you’ll end up doing nothing or settling for less than you deserve simply because you’re so afraid of that change.
This tragedy when you think about it. You’ve let fear stop you from living your life to its full potential. You’ll forever live with the haunting question of “What might have I achieved if I hadn’t let fear get in the way?”



In reality, fear is one of the most common reasons for resistance to change because it stops you taking any action at all. Fear of change is likely to be the reason for any resistance to change you experience.

Most people want to change something about their lives, but they are discouraged by the fears and self-doubts their false beliefs create. If you are ready to transform your life, then you must be ready to conquer your fear of change.

Self-doubt can be a troubling and persuasive voice that holds you back. It holds you back from seizing your opportunities. It makes getting started or finishing things harder than they need to be. Sure, it can sometimes be useful as it helps you to soberly see your current limitations or simply recognize a half-baked or bad idea. But mostly, it holds you back in life.

You Need to Overcome the Fear of Making Changes

If you want to achieve a certain goal, but at the same time fill your mind with doubts, fears and lack of belief, you drive away the manifestation of your goal. It is like sailing against the wind and the currents of the ocean, and being constantly pushed back.

Sometimes, the doubts fears hide at the back of your mind, and sometimes, you might be aware of them. Every time you take a step forward, they take you one or two steps backwards, and you never accomplish anything.

Fears and doubts arise because we prefer the familiar and known, since it gives us a sense of security. Often, we might have a subconscious fear to make changes in our life.

So how can you get around that, how can you overcome those times of fear and self-doubt so that you can move forward once again?

Let’s look at some of the reasons you can end up paralyzed with fear and self doubts and then figure out what you can do about it so you can live the life of your dreams:

1. Comparing Yourself with Others

Self-doubt is associated with three main processes—comparison, becoming fixated on specific outcomes, and feeling like an imposter.

Self-doubt is defined as the lack of confidence in one’s own abilities. When plagued with self-doubt, we believe that we can’t do something, and if we dig a bit deeper, we will invariably find that this belief arises from comparison. We believe we can’t do it the way someone else does it.

We gauge success and failure by the norm, which is always set by others. Think about this. If you never had the ability to compare yourself with others, would you be plagued either by self-doubt or its opposite, over-confidence?

The thing about comparison is that if it’s left unchecked, it’ll lead to two other potentially crippling thought patterns: self-doubt and jealousy.

Although comparison is something we all struggle with, it’s something we all can overcome by firstly, becoming aware that we’re even doing it in the first place, and secondly, by taking the appropriate steps to change the way we think about ourselves and others.

Comparison may start innocently enough, but it quickly escalates to the point where you can’t stop thinking about it and sometimes, it even cripples you to the point you can’t move forward.

One of the most dangerous things about comparison is that it can lead to self-doubt, and once self-doubt has entered the picture, it’s difficult to focus on anything except the fears that are now slowly entering your mind: Fear that you’re not doing enough. Fear that you don’t have what it takes. Fear that you’re not smart or good or pretty or fill-in-the-blank enough. Fear that you’ll never be quite as (whatever) as so-and-so. Fear that somehow, God’s forgotten about you while He’s busy blessing everyone else.

You have a unique purpose and calling on your life that no one else has because God created only one you.  And He has specific things planned for you that He doesn’t have planned for anyone else.

When we come back to our purpose, we realize that there’s really nothing to compare because how can we compare one God-given purpose against another God-given purpose?

2. Changing Your Perspective about the World

Most people look at the world around them as something real, solid and unchangeable. Their thoughts reflect their life, circumstances and events, and they never think beyond them. Rarely, will someone dare to visualize a completely different situation, and believe that he or she can make it real.

If you believe that you cannot make changes and improvements in your life, you will do nothing, and stay where you are. On the other hand, when you can see in your mind’s eye a different kind of life and different situations, you stop being enslaved by your circumstances, and you start changing them.

3. Making Changes in Your life and creating New Circumstances

Holding in your mind thoughts and images that are different, and unrelated to your current life, is the way to create new circumstances and make changes in your life.

If you keep repeating the same thought, it will eventually materialize, provided there are not opposing negative thoughts, fears, worries or doubts.

Sometimes, the materialization of your thoughts may be delayed, due to the fact that you are not yet ready for the change. You might need more knowledge, information, training, or a new skill, before you get what you want. Sometimes, you might get what you want quickly, and in an unusual ways, but most often, thoughts come true in a natural, gradual manner.

4. Talk to Someone about It

When you keep your thoughts on the inside they can become distorted, exaggerated and not very much in line with reality or reasonable expectations.

This is very much true when it comes to self-doubting thoughts.

So let them out into the light. Talk to someone close to you about your self-doubts.

Just letting them out and saying them out loud can often help you to hear how exaggerated these thoughts have become. And by talking about those doubts with someone that is supportive of you can get a change in perspective.
